Erdeven Djess

Erdeven Djess suit, en 1985 et par correspondance, une formation de stylisme et modélisme comprenant une initiation à l’histoire de l’art. Il dessine depuis l’enfance à la mine de plomb, troquée des années plus tard contre le stylo bille, devenu l’outil exclusif de sa production. Le plus souvent exécutées sur de grands formats, ses scènes baroques et maniéristes, où se lisent une douce admiration pour l’identité gender fluid ainsi qu’un vif intérêt pour la représentation d’étoffes précieuses et d’objets symboliques, rendent hommage aux milieux marginalisés et à l’excentricité. «C’est autour de la figure, des désordres humains, des désirs aussi, que se structurent ces grands dessins, comme autant d'images et de chaos ; ainsi que la farouche volonté de se présenter «bellement» au monde – panoplies et accessoires anciens qu’absorbent mes personnages permettent cela. Je ne les veux ni totalement «hommes» ou «femmes», ni vraiment «enfants», ce sont mes créatures hybrides semblant sortis d’un théâtre baroque et burlesque.» De 1994 à 2010, l’artiste est costumier pour des compagnies de théâtre et de danse contemporaine à Paris. Il expose ses dessins depuis 2009 et est représenté par HEY! modern art & pop culture.
Erdeven Djess

In 1985, Erdeven Djess followed correspondence trainings in styling and model making, including an initiation to the history of art. He has drawn using graphite since childhood, but traded it years later for the ballpoint pen, which has become the exclusive tool of his production. Most often performed in large formats, his baroque and mannerist scenes, showing a gentle admiration for gender fluid identity as well as a keen interest in the representation of precious fabrics and symbolic objects, pay homage to marginalized social circles and eccentricity. “These large drawings are structured around the figure, human disorders, and also desires, like so many images and so much chaos; as well as the fierce will to present oneself ‘beautifully’ to the world - the old outfits and accessories that my characters absorb allow this. I do not want them either totally ‘Men’ or ‘Women, nor really ‘Children, they are my hybrid creatures who seem to come out of a baroque and burlesque theater." From 1994 to 2010, the artist was a costume designer for theater and contemporary dance companies in Paris. He has started exhibiting his drawings since 2009 and is represented by HEY! modern art & pop culture.
